Capturing Generations and Change: A Reflective Look into Jia Hao’s “Tropical Spark”
Visual artist and photographer Jia Hao presents “Tropical Spark,” a documentary photography project. Jia Hao, based in Yunnan province, China, is an alumnus of the State University of New York at Albany. The pivotal matter discussed in “Tropical Spark” is the story of Xiao, whose grandparents, motivated by a sense of responsibility, moved to Southwest China in the 1960s intending to develop rubber plantations. Following her global travels and return to her hometown in 2019, Jia Hao began focusing on documenting the ethnic culture of Yunnan. Her documentary reflects this focus. She has offered her audience an intimate portrayal of a community navigating the subtle differences of progress and tradition.
